UWSA.COM's Position on the Privacy of Information About You

UWSA.COM is about empowering individual citizens of the United States. We do not need a lot of information about individuals visiting or using this site to do this. At times it is useful to use aggregated information to demonstrate our usefulness, but information is not retained on specific visitors or subscribers to our several mail lists. Therefore we adhere to the following prinicples and practices regarding your participation or viewing of information on this site:

• We are not setting cookies in your browser or using cgi scripts to try and determine your viewing habits at this site.

• UWSA.COM does keep the standard web log records and infrequently uses them to report to supporters and members of mail lists operated at this domain, on the numbers of viewers coming from certain classes of domains, e.g. edu, K12, gov, mil, etc.

• UWSA.COM may collect some additional information for those who respond to the web surveys we conduct. A partial purpose for collecting this is to prevent "stuffing the ballot box" by some respondents. The information is not used to associate individuals with particular responses except to eliminate duplicate or multiple responses where that is not prescribed. This information may also help determine additional tools UWSA.COM may provide in the future.

• UWSA.COM is host for several mail lists. Many of these lists have owners who are contributing their time to UWSA.COM. UWSA.COM does not resell any mail lists. We take all practical protections to prevent our lists to be used for SPAM and we protect the privacy of all list subscribers. Only list owners and UWSA.COM itself can obtain or will be given access to the subscriber mail addresses. If you subscribe to a mail list at UWSA.COM:
  • All lists at UWSA.COM distribute individual copies to list subscribers. The list processing software will never disclose your address along with others which invites "e-mail address mining" to get addresses for resale to spammers. You may occasionally see many e-mail addresses in a post from UWSA.COM. This occurs when the original e-mail poster puts the UWSA.COM mail list address in with a list of other addressees. It was done by the originator, not by UWSA.COM email service. UWSA.COM encourages the use of professional mail list management software that does not disclose list members in the mail that is distributed. Messages with many addressees attract spammers and producers of mail lists for spammers. UWSA.COM is firmly in opposition to SPAM
  • Your email address will never be sold or given to another organization by UWSA.COM. We expect that our volunteer List Owners, who are the only other party with knowledge that you participate on any of our lists, will abide by the same policy. For your protection, the list names are not generally available, even to other list subscribers.
  • Your e-mail address will be shown on posts that you make. UWSA.COM believes in protecting your privacy, but it also believes we must be individually accountable for statements we make or forward to a list.
  • All mail posted to any mail list is archived for at least one year and in current practice much longer.
  • Only list subscribers may post to lists at UWSA.COM. On unmoderated lists these posts are redistributed almost immediately. There are no open post lists to reduce the SPAM possibility. However it is not uncommon for non-subscribers to attempt to post to a list at UWSA.COM. A copy of the attempt is forwarded to the list owners and they may individually decide to approve the post for distribution to the list.
  • Additionally some lists are moderated. In this instance the list owner must individually approve any post before it is distributed.
  • A few of the lists only allow the list-owner to post messages. If you reply to one of these lists, your message is forwarded to the list owner.

• UWSA.COM will keep this Privacy Policy statement current. Unless we happen (heaven forbid) to be faced with an Court Order from a Court with recognized jurisdiction over this domain, these policies will be strictly followed.
